Fury, for better or worse, didn't beat around the bush, or mince words. He was a lot like Colonel Phillips in that regard, which sort of made Steve like him, even if he didn't like what Fury had to say sometimes. "Rogers," he greeted, cordially enough. "Remember how we talked about getting you out into the public eye some more?"
Steve ran a hand over his mouth, and caught himself starting to glance at Rogue. "Yes, sir," he said automatically. He had a feeling he knew where this was going. And sure enough, Fury continued by telling him about several parades he wanted Steve to participate in. In full Captain America costume, no less.
"With all due respect, sir," Steve started after Fury finished outlining the events (his tone of voice suggesting no such amount of respect, because honestly, was Fury serious right now?), "I don't mind marching in a few parades, but anything involving veterans, I'm going to wear my army browns, not my costume. And," he continued as Fury began to bluster, "I'll have to check about the Thanksgiving Day parade. I don't know what plans I have for that day."
"Plans, Rogers?!" Fury stormed. "Who're you gonna have Thanksgiving with, Stark?"
Steve ground his teeth. "Frankly, sir, I don't think that's any of your business. I'll be spending the holiday with friends, and that's all I feel like sharing with you, at the moment." It was interesting, though, that despite all of his teammates at least knowing about Rogue, if not having already met her, that Fury didn't know he was seeing someone. "I'll call you back once I figure out my schedule a little better."
"Your--!" Steve could actually hear Fury take a deep breath. "Fine. You coordinate everything with your social secretary, Rogers, and get back to me." The line cut off, but that was fine; Steve wasn't really in the mood to be cordial enough to say goodbye to Fury, either.
