Steve pressed his forehead to Rogue's for a moment, stroking his thumb along her jaw, before pulling back and shaking his head - but he left his hands cupping her neck; he still loved being able to touch her in such simple ways, made even more important by the fact he knew not so long ago, it hadn't been possible for her.
"Fury's--I won't say he's all bark and no bite, but he knows when to pick his battles. And he knows how stubborn I am," he added with an amused quirk of his mouth. "It'll be fine. Fury's not a politician, but he knows how to play the game, when he needs to, and he understands that a lot of times, any publicity is good publicity, so long as you put the right spin on it." That made his mouth turn down a little unhappily as his eyes slid away from her face, thinking of how well Fury was able to play that particular game.
Taking a deep breath, he smiled at Rogue reassuringly. "I'll discuss it with him, and point out that having Captain America there, as just another soldier supporting troops and paying his respects, will do a great deal for SHIELD's image. Maybe the brass in the other military branches won't care, but the troops will, and that's what really counts, when it matters."
Steve took a deep breath, giving Rogue's neck a little squeeze. "Are you sure you're okay with Thanksgiving? The parade will probably go until noon or so...and then I don't know if I'll be able to get away right away." He could always leave the parade a little early, but that seemed unfair to the people who had spots at the end, and would miss out on seeing him.
