Steve grinned, as much at the 'cute butt' comment as to her support. "I expected nothing less. You know it's my kitchen in name only, anyway."
He almost said it, then. He'd been thinking, more and more often lately, how much easier it would be if Rogue were here all the time. It wasn't even just wanting her in his apartment - it was wanting something a little more permanent with her. Moving in with her wasn't feasible since her place was so small, which was why they often did things at his place anyway. And it wasn't the commute, although that was something to consider. All of the very prudent justifications he could make weren't the real reason: he just wanted Rogue with him. He wanted her to feel comfortable in a space, and he wanted to be a part of that space, with her.
He knew they'd jumped into this relationship with both feet, neither of them in very good places at the time, and maybe they still relied on each other a little more than was strictly healthy; but they were happy together, and he wanted that to continue. Five out of seven nights of the week she stayed over, anyway, they were used to sharing the same space; they were practically living together anyway. It wasn't asking her to marry him, but it still felt like a big deal, and so he hesitated. He didn't know if she'd see it as a big deal, or if it was just the next logical step, like marriage would've been, had they been dating in his time. Maybe she was comfortable the way things were, and wouldn't want to change anything. He didn't know, and so he didn't say anything. But it was always sitting at the back of his mind.
But to keep it pushed back there, so he didn't say anything he might end up regretting, Steve gave her a mischievous grin. "I realize you're familiar with my 'cute butt,' but you've never seen it in my costume."
