The worst soulmate ever would have been someone cruel who felt she was more property than person. It was rare for a relationship to turn possessive to the point of violence, but it did happen. If her soulmate was someone who appreciated her as an independent person, with the right to thoughts and feelings of her own, then she would consider herself lucky.
